Wake up and smell the coffee

As i watched the latest bad commercial with a cricketer in it, it occured to me how warped our perspective of celebrities really is. Have no fear, for this isn't another ad-bashing post. Far from it, in fact. Correct me if i'm wrong, but from my perspective, this is how the media works: If a batsman loses form or is sacked from the Indian cricket team, the advertisements that he features in are promptly pulled off the air. However, if a celebrity politician is convicted of murder, he still appears large as life, endorsing products on television as if nothing ever happened. Well the first case is quite common, but it is this second case that disturbs me the most. And it is rather unnerving to watch the man in the perfectly matched turban and tie be persisted with to endorse a brand of inverters, even after being convicted of culpable homicide. I for one, am not about to launch a scathing attack on the man himself, for we all have our faults and have made mistakes in life. But wh

Ad-Mad

I think its about time that i took a dig at something. Three blog posts on, and nothing has yet been ripped apart and shredded into little pieces.Shocking. Well let's get down to business. After all, this is what blogs are meant for. Now, if anyone hasn't noticed yet, creativity has taken a very severe hit when it comes to the subject of advertisements on television in the recent months.Insanity is the new 'name-of-the-game'. To get a clear picture of what i'm trying to convey, let's consider the new Pepsi campaign. Its got arguably some of the biggest current bollywood stars and yet this pathetic attempt at humour is less appealing than a bottle of warm, flat diet pepsi. To add to the pain, it has precious little to do with the product itself, or so it seems. Apparently, when you watch cricket while drinking Pepsi (or vice versa), it becomes "Pepsi TV". The idea is so poorly conveyed that when victims of this ad campaign saw a banner that said "Pe

Jinxed?

Well he lost again. This time in Rome, and, surprise surprise, it was on clay and to Rafael Nadal. For the man who beats the world at this game, having lost five out of six encounters with the same person would no doubt displease Roger Federer. With the French Open around the corner, Federer is probably going to spend a lot of sleepless nights wondering how, if he does happen to play Nadal (which he most likely will), he is going to tackle this fiery young spaniard who seems to hold an invisible grip over him. To me, Nadal is the only force that stands between the champion and the only grand slam that he's never won, and this could emerge as one of the greatest clay court rivalries in the recent history of tennis. Watching the two of them battle for 5 hours in the finals of the Rome Masters was in itself a treat, but die-hard Federer fans would have felt a hint of despair watching him literally throw away TWO match points with uncharacteristically ugly forehand errors. ......And for

The Name's Blog, Web-Log

Having successfully survived the initial craze of blogging , i'll have to admit that this was rather unexpected. Yet here i find myself, having created a blog and now about to publish my first post. Kind of like losing your virginity, though not quite as exciting. Honestly, i've never really understood the concept of a blog, but i'm hoping to learn soon enough. Journals and diaries have inherently been a very private affair, so the concept of a public journal is rather ingenious. I recently even heard the term "Blook" being used, which, in case you don't know or haven't already guessed, is some sort of book written and published via a blog. I'm sure they could have coined a better name for it. Quite a novel idea (forgive the bad pun) anyway and i think it might actually help aspiring writers like myself. After all, when you're going to be an engineer you really have to consider alternative career options. So if there's a slump in the IT industr
