The Sydney Saga - Part Deux

Now while the purists still vehemently oppose the furtherment of technology as an umpiring aid, i don't think any number of camera angles or slow-motion replays can guarantee sportsmanship on the field. The show put on by the Australians at Sydney was quite disgraceful,to say the least, and the last gentleman of international cricket, Anil Kumble, put it rather aptly by saying that only one side played in the true spirit of the game. Personally, i can't quite understand why the Australians need to resort to such tactics, when everyone already knows and acknowledges that they undoubtedly are fantastic cricketers. What they really need, is a lesson in respect, for the opposition and for the game. Andrew Symonds, however, badly needs a lesson in profanity, for he clearly hasn't a clue about what to consider abusive. Maybe next time Harbhajan should give him a mouthful of the choicest Punjabi gaali s to at least give the poor bastard a reason to complain. It's like we'r...

The Sydney Saga - Part I

So we all know what happened in Sydney. Everyone's talking about it, and everyone's writing about it. And as the dust settles on that tremendously sordid tale of racist slurs, bad umpiring, and unsportsmanly behavior, i can only help but think of a handful of really significant outcomes. For one, if anyone ever doubted how political cricket has become, and how much power the subcontinent really wields, the drama that followed the Sydney test match would put to an end all such speculation. The BCCI, (along with the PCB) at the moment, is pretty much the undisputed overlord and bully(?) of the cricketing world. Their team isn't nearly the best but they certainly do call the shots. The ICC is now a mere puppet in the hands of the subcontinent, who unabashedly flex their financial muscle to get their way. A certain Mr. Darell Hair would i'm sure, concur. In some ways, the Indian cricket board can be compared to the United States of the cricketing fraternity. They may have a...

No, we're not dead yet. Just comatose. Nearly ten months on since my last post and i still have nothing worthwhile to write about. Considering that a large number of rather significant events have occurred during this period including graduation, a vacation to the far east and the start of my working career, the lack of posts is quite inexcusable. To add to the misery of writer's block, there seems to be a tremendous scarcity of interesting women around. (And i say this with all due respect to the women of the world, for everyone is interesting in their own way.) Not just that, but for some inexplicable reason, the precious few that Are around are either committed, engaged or married. Which brings us to the obvious question of, "Are they interesting because they are committed, or are they committed because they are interesting?". Not that this profound thought leads us anywhere either, but i'm getting pretty convinced that my lack of inspiration can be as easily a...
